The 5MW turbines are around 450'H but the 10MW "Clipper " comes in at around 800'H. Approximately 6.5-8 times higher then the lighthouse or the water tower. They are MASSIVE turbines! Check out the facebook page "People Against the Lake Michigan Wind Farm" which has good information updated frequently. It is a great place to ask questions and to find other groups who oppose the wind turbine development in the lake. The site keeps growing as more people learn about it. Sign up...they need all of the people they can get!

For 300ft tall turbines to NOT be visible from the Oceana and Mason County shores they would need to be a minimun of 21 Miles from the shore. The technology is available for the turbines to be anchored in the depths at that distance. It is more expensive though the deaper they are anchored. In my opinion if the turbines are installed within eye sight of any shoreline on western Michian, the best trade off to the citizens of Oceana and Mason counties would be for the power company to provide FREE ELECTRICAL POWER to all residential user of BOTH counties forever from these turbines that would otherwise destroy the namesake view "Oceana" forever.
